Recent Additions to ELA Starfish
January 29, 2009 at 5:27 pm | In Reader's Workshop, Teacher Tid-bits | 7 CommentsRPA = Reading Progress Assessment: monitors day to day reading over a period of time. Students should read everyday as much as possible including time allotted at school and time at home. We want to continue to grow as readers, which only happens by actually reading on a regular basis. For the most part, we are doing a good job. If you (the student) feel behind this week on your day to day reading, make sure you make up for it this weekend. The first RPA scores will be posted early next week in e-grades.
T2K = Terms to know focus on vocabulary terms all seventh grade students should master. Each week, we get a new list of focus words where we do class activities. This first week, we took the Gab Slab Challenge, which was a table competition to complete the list of terms correctly first. Winners will be announced in class tomorrow, Friday 1-30-09.
As always, students take notes or place handouts in their Reading and Writing Handbooks. This time of year is a great time for reviewing content already covered. Currently, we are working on the ins and outs of the subgenres located within the spectrum of fiction and non fiction. Students should apply what we are learning with examples in their reading dialogue journals as well as their day to day reading. As a parent, you can help out by asking them questions or getting them to “teach” you the material.
Current book order closes tomorrow, 1-30-09 at 3:30.

I try to get as much reading in as possible each day and night.
Type back,
I have been doing really well with that so far…I plan to finish Eclipse before 2 weeks into the month.By the way…When was that little contest for the Terms 2 Know (T2K) due? I got the notes down, Amber got them from me and im trying to get wood to get his done. When was it due? As for the subgenres, Are we going to do Rdj’s on each Genre? or are we going to make up some sort of Non-fiction,fairytale,Sci-fi Etc. Rdj with made-up characters, or ourselves that we can choose from? If so, I would like to do a Non-Fiction Rdj with a certain Conflict with a solution to fix the problem. Anyway, The Reading Record you have been taking note on.. Is that a massive amount of our grade for this symester, or the next one as well? If you get a certain amount of stars, Will it lead to a certain benefit for the class? and if thats true, does the whole team have to get a good amount of stars or does just the class (just core 1 or just core 2) have to get a good amount of stars?

I think that the interviewing today was fun because we got to see what other people were reading what what they were reading was about. My table hasn’t finished yet because it was a short core 4 today, but we have time this week right? Okay, well see you in class!!

I liked the interviewing today because we could see what people were reading and what they thought about it. Our table finished today… do we turn it in on our regular rotation day? OK, see you in class tomorrow!

I liked interviewing. It was cool to see if we were right on which genre it was! I liked that we had to guess and then ask questions. It helps me to figure out what genre is which. It was fun!
